Just 4 days before my trip to Croatia my Nikon D700 suddenly showed “ERR” in the top display.
I was clearing my gear after a photo shoot (DM2 Skærbæk), and doing that I just wanted to check something in the cameras menu.
I tuned the camera on and pressed the “Menu” button. Nothing the screen was black. I then tried to take a picture but noting, I could only hear a little click inside the camera.
Damm wtf… the camera has only done about 10K exposures. I then tried the “MUP” function with no lense attached, so I could see what was going on inside.
And my worst suspicion was confirmed. The mirror was working, but the shutter curtain was only pulling down 1/3 and then it was stuck…
So what now? Send it to Nikon, yes but they cannot do a repair in 2-3 days I think. I’m not a Nikon NPS…
And the camera was bought used, so what about the warranty?
I think I have the most wonderful and understanding wife, cause she said that I have talked about getting a spare camera before but always kind off dropped the idea. But now the time was come the get a second camera…. Wow my girl… I think it’s time to get some big present for he birthday.
The D700 was of to Nikon for repair, and I went online and got a Nikon D300s as a spare camera. The camera arrived the same day we where leaving for Croatia… I wasn’t worried I swear…hehe
The Nikon D700 was sent on the 21-06 and the 30-06 I was returned. The DC-DC converter, shutter and the grip rubber was replaced. AF was adjusted and the Nikon did it on the camera’s warenty…Nice Nikon.
Just want to say thanks to DFA (The Danish Nikon Repair Center) for a quick and very helpful service.
